On-Hertz

Creating a beautiful and user-friendly interface for a mobile application that allows radio broadcasts on the go.

Introduction

When On-hertz came to us, we knew this would be one of the most fascinating projects of the year. On-Hertz created a prototype of what is now called Lumo. Lumo is a complete radio station in your backpack, allowing radio presenters to run an entire show from any touch-enabled laptop or iPad.

On-Hertz asked for our help to optimize the UX (User Experience) and UI (User Interface). It is not the easiest of tasks, considering any mistake made because of the interface could lead to hundreds of thousands of people hearing it on their favorite radio show.

Challenges

Evidently, we are no radio makers, and though some of us dabble with audio in our spare time, almost all of the domain knowledge was in the client's head.

So, to inject our design expertise into the project, we hosted several research & sketching sessions to flesh out the perfect interface. The goal was to make it highly intuitive and user-friendly and prevent user errors.

Solution

We kicked things off by filling the room with a bunch of sketches and rough paper prototypes. Then, we got creative with style tiles, giving the client a variety of interface design options to pick from.

Once they made their choice, we brought that design system to life, meshing it with our initial sketches. The outcome? A slick, polished interface that turned their basic proof of concept into a super cool minimum viable product.
